http://www.633main.com/dev29.htm Teflon Coated (So fresh and so clean!) There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus. Rom. 8:1 TEV In May of 2002 I heard a cool term on NPR's Diane Reeme show. It was a Friday, when they had about 4 guest news columnists, and the subject turned to George W. Bush's approval rating. You recall, the previous September was 9/11 and the nation was at war in Afghanistan fighting the "war on terror." George W's approval rating was well above 90% if I recall correctly, and that was HIGH! I forget what dirt came out about him, but one of the columnist described him as being "Teflon Coated." "Right now," they exclaimed, "no dirt will stick him. The country is united to fight the war on terror and Osama Bin Laden. We are united with him to avenge the deaths of those who died in the World Trade Center Attacks." "Wow," I thought. "What would it feel like to be Teflon Coated against all kinds of dirt." You know, back stabbers, liars, thieves, haters hating on you. But even better, what would it feel like to be impervious to the condemnation that you rightly deserve for backstabbing, lying, stealing, and hating on your neighbor! Teflon, polytetrafluoroethylene, is that stuff that keeps your scrambled eggs from sticking to the pan. It has a wide range of uses. They have teflon coated carpet, clothes, everything. All of which repel dirt and water. The good news is we can be Teflon Coated too. Teflon coated against the wages of sin- Eternal Death. According to Romans 8:1, "There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus." Now this does not mean there is no condemnation because we are sinless. It means if we accept Jesus Christs' death as our substitute, we can receive His teflon coating against sin. But there is one catch. You know how the teflon coating on your frying pan wears over time, and you have to get a new pan every so often? Well, each day we have to renew our "union" with Christ to keep the dirt from sticking to us. David writes, "Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a NEW and Loyal spirit in me." Ps. 51:10 TEV So today, lets renew our Teflon coating, and flake sin and Satan's fiery darts off our robes. Remember, though our sins be as scarlet, with Christs' Teflon coating, we can be made as white as snow. -Eric Lusain, Cincinnati, OH
