You Just Have To Talk About It
Psalm 19
“Oh, daddy, I wish you could see the moon; it’s the most overwhelming sight I think I’ve ever seen.”
We had both seen it at about the same time, and our first response was to call and tell the other. What
made it even more phenomenal was that Sheila was in Dallas, and I was 250 miles away in Tulsa. And
if that weren’t enough we both were taken by the rather large star right below and to the right of the
moon. I was later told that star was actually Mars.
After we both became satisfied that the other had seen it all, we finally gave up on both trying to
comprehend and explain to the other what we each had seen. Throughout the rest of the evening, I
could not resist the urge to go out into the dark of the night to see more of the unexplainable. By 11:30,
Mars had moved to the upper right of the moon before disappearing from sight. Most every evening
since then, there has been that magnetic draw to find Mars next to the moon. The effort has been
unsuccessful, but I discovered something new and every bit as unimaginable each time and felt the urge
to call someone. I didn’t for fear of being seen as stupid. Especially at 12:30 in the morning.
All my life, beginning as a small child on the farm, I have been captivated by the magnitude of the night
skies which give way to the brilliance and power of the sun only to again take over in the evening. It
happens every day and night and has since creation. This phenomenon is confined by neither space nor
time and leaves us with the same response of the shepherds at Christ’s birth—the need to tell someone,
to share it from a need within, a need to include someone else.
It’s another of God’s efforts to reveal something about the mystery of Himself to man. And as
expected, man is left with two responses: either to accept the unexplainable as His revelation or to reject
it either out of an unwillingness or an inability to understand it. It’s always been that way. Whether
through pride, ignorance, or stubbornness, man chooses to either accept or reject the idea of a personal,
revealed God, whether in His creation, His miracles throughout history, or His person in Jesus Christ.
Yet, to accept His revelation is to discover a whole new paradigm for life. To live with a sense of
purpose, direction, and satisfaction not even remotely found in anyone or anywhere else. It’s something
you just have to talk about.
LIFE RESPONSE:
1. This week MEMORIZE and MEDITATE on Psalm 19:10 “They are more desirable than gold, yes than much finegold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.”
(a) If this one verse is descriptive of the value and importance of God’s revelation of Himself to meet our physical,
emotional, and spiritual needs, where are we spending our time, energy, and pursuits?
(b) Think about the revelation of God in His Word in context of the evidence of His revelation in nature. How does
it bring a greater emotional and physical connection to His Word and your life?
2. It would be a great family or small group exercise to bundle up, go outside on a crystal clear evening, read Psalm 19, and
pray that the visible, verbal, and volitional take a fresh place in your lives.
3. This week, take each of the six “terms” for God’s revelation in Scripture and consider each of the six benefits as they
apply to your life. (i.e. Verse 7, Testimony - is sure - making wise the simple.) Jot down your observations.
4. On a 3x5 card or on your screen saver, write out the prayer found in Verse 14 as your own. You may want to include
verses 10-14 as a part of your prayer.

Psalm 19
“ ‘Tis revelation satisfies all doubts,
Explains all mysteries except her own,
And so illuminates the path of life,
That fools discover it, and stray no more.”
