Raising Compassionate, Courageous Kids 1
published Oct 29, 2007 12:00
Most parents want their children to be well-mannered and well-behaved, especially when other adults are around. The problem with training kids to be nice, today's guest says, is that parents lose sight of what's far more important than outward appearance: inner character. Listen in as author Tim Smith discusses his provocatively-titled book The Danger of Raising Nice Kids and encourages parents to emphasize qualities like honesty, goodness, compassion and courage.
"Sometimes we just settle for nice - 'What a nice kid! He's so thoughtful, he's doing great on the soccer field, he's bringing home great grades.' But have we really looked beyond the 'nice' .. into the heart and the character of the child?" - Tim Smith
