In Acts 4, the Bible tells us that Peter and John were arrested for healing a lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate of the temple in Jerusalem. After the "trial" before the Council, they were released - because the people were praising God for what had happened. But before the Council let them go, they threatened Peter and John not to speak anymore about Jesus.

The response of Peter and John, as well as their friends, was to gather together and lift their voices in prayer. But who they prayed to is vital. They prayed to the, "Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them..." Acts 4:24

The Lord, who is Sovereign, is in control of all things at all times - whether the healing of a man born lame or the arrest and threatening of faithful Christ-followers.

We can walk in peace to the degree that we trust in His sovereignty. Worry and anxiousness reveal our lack of confidence in His sovereign hand and plan.

Sharon Sands recently wrote:

"The reason that we find [the sovereignty of God] hard to believe at times, is, that our lives are not always filled with good, easy and pleasant things. But, we must remember that God has an eternal perspective. His main goal is NOT our comfort, but His main goal is to forge our lives into living powerful testimonies to His grace and His power...that we would begin to look more and more like Jesus, who laid down His life and endured the horrors of the cross, to bring God's purposes to pass!! The cross, a tragic event that was TOTALLY God's plan and brought glory to His name and salvation to multitudes!!!"
The Passionate Heart

When we are satisfied with who God is in His sovereignty then our worship of Him will transcend any evil or "negative" circumstance we may encounter in this life. God, not Satan, has a sovereign purpose in everything that comes our way. Let's worship Him - daily - with trust in our hearts - at the Beautiful Gate of His sovereignty!
